How ChatGPTGIF.net handles the prompts and photos you send to make a GIF, and the small amount of data the site keeps to run.

Last updated: 2026-11-06

ChatGPTGIF.net (chatgptgif.net) is an independent GIF maker built on OpenAI's GPT Image 2.6 model: you describe a scene, optionally add a photo and the motion you want, and the model returns a short animated GIF. This policy explains what the site receives from you, what it is used for, which outside services get a share of it and how long it stays. "We", "us" and "our" refer to the people who operate chatgptgif.net. We are not OpenAI, and OpenAI does not run this site.

The short version

  • Your prompt and any photo you add are used only to make the GIF you asked for. We don't sell them, post them anywhere or use them to train AI models.
  • The GIF converter, compressor and editor tools (video to GIF, GIF to MP4, crop, resize, add text and the like) run inside your browser: the files you open in them stay on your device and are never sent to us.
  • GIF face swap is not live yet: the GIF and face photo you add on that page stay in your browser and are never sent to us. If you join its waitlist, we keep only what the waitlist form asks for.
  • Photos stay in our storage only as long as the service needs them, and we remove yours as soon as you ask.
  • To keep the free GIF fair, we store a salted, one-way hash of your IP address and a device identifier, never the address itself.
  • There is nothing to sign up for. Your email address is only asked for if you choose to join the waitlist for a feature that isn't live yet.

Information you send us

Your prompt and photo. The text you type to describe the GIF and the motion, plus any photo you upload as a starting frame, after your browser has resized and compressed it. We also receive the options you picked, such as the aspect ratio.

Waitlist email. A few tools or options aren't available yet. If you choose one, a form offers to let you know when it is ready. Filling it in stores your email address, the page and option you chose, your answer to " What will you make GIFs for?", and a salted, one-way hash of your IP address that helps us filter out spam bots. The address is used for that single notice only: it isn't verified, added to a mailing list or passed to anyone.

Emails to us. If you write to us, we keep the thread so we can answer you.

What the site logs on its own

  • Free GIF allowance. A salted hash of your IP address, an identifier your browser derives from its own settings, and how many free GIFs you have used. The browser identifier is also kept in your browser's local storage.
  • Generation records. Which tool was used, when, whether the GIF was made, and links to any uploaded photo and to the result.
  • Server logs. As with any website, our host handles your IP address, browser type and the pages you open, both to serve the site and to stop attacks.
  • Traffic statistics. Visits are counted with Plausible Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores nothing that identifies you. We only see totals such as page views, countries and referring sites.

Cookies and local storage

We set no cookies for visitors. Your browser's local storage holds the device identifier mentioned above and whether you chose the light or dark theme. Clearing the site's data in your browser removes both.

Services that process your data for us

A handful of outside services help run the site, and each one gets only what its job below requires:

  • Cloudflare — hosts the site and stores uploaded photos and finished GIFs; like any web host it sees your IP address when you connect.
  • AI image model providers (GPT Image 2.6 runs through our AI gateway) — receive your prompt and any photo you upload, run the model that creates your GIF, and keep the result for a limited time so it can be downloaded.
  • Plausible Analytics — counts visits to our pages without cookies and without identifying you.

Beyond that, we disclose information only when the law requires it or when it is needed to prevent fraud or keep people safe. We never sell personal information or share it for advertising.

How long it is kept

  • Uploaded photos: stored only while the service needs them; email us and we delete yours.
  • Finished GIFs: held by the AI provider that made them for a limited time so you can download them, then removed. Download the ones you want to keep.
  • Free GIF allowance records: for as long as the free GIF is offered; they never contain a raw IP address.
  • Waitlist entries: until the notice for that feature has gone out, or until you ask us to remove yours, whichever happens first.

Your rights

Email us and we will tell you what we hold about you, send you a copy, fix it or erase it, uploaded photos included. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live (the EU, the UK or California, for example), you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority.

Children

ChatGPTGIF.net is not for anyone under 18, and photos of people under 18 must not be uploaded. If we find that we hold one, we delete it.

Younger visitors shouldn't join the waitlist either; if we find out a child has, we remove the entry.

Security

All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. Every upload is checked to be a real image before it is stored, and each file is saved under a long, random address that isn't listed anywhere. Anyone who has that address can open the file, so share result links only with people you trust.

Where data is processed

Our host and AI providers operate servers in several countries, so your data may be handled outside the country where you live.

Updates to this policy

Whenever this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If an update changes how your prompts or photos are used, we will announce it on the site before it applies.
